MK April 16
From the Editor
Welcome to April! According to Wikipedia the Romans gave this month the Latin name Aprilis but the derivation of this name is uncertain. The traditional etymology is from the verb aperire, ‘to open’, in allusion to its being the season when trees and flowers begin to ‘open’. Although my bulbs have all been open for weeks due to our warmer temperatures.
Inside this month we have all of the regulars including ‘My Home Town’ from John Best, Arts Gateway MK, where he looks at his home town, MK, not as an economic success but as an artefact, an art object worth noting, visiting and celebrating.
We also welcome Linda Allen from Travel Counsellors who kicks off her new monthly column with a guide to The Maldives – quite timely if you’re considering a getaway. And Roger Grenville-Jones discusses mis-sold endowment policies.
Destination Milton Keynes, the official tourism organisation for MK, is holding the 4th annual #LoveMK Day on Thursday 28th April. On the day you can follow @DestinationMK for your chance to win prizes as they run ‘12 competitions in 12 hours’ where you could win by just using the hashtag.
