MK December 16
From the Editor
So, the big ‘C’ is finally here – wow, where did 2016 go?! As I write this, Black Friday is looming and I really need to get to grips with buying Christmas presents – if not I may find myself doing the ‘Christmas Eve last minute dash’ with all of the guys!
The annual Willen Hospice Lights of Love remembrance service takes place on Saturday 3rd December at The Ridgeway Centre in Wolverton Mill South. It’s a time to gather together, reflect and remember loved ones, while showing much needed support for Willen Hospice at Christmas time.
Christmas wouldn’t be complete without the annual Christmas grotto at centre:mk. Every year you think they can’t top last’s – but they always do! This year it’s a 20,000 sq ft and 25 minute fully interactive grotto experience featuring a double height carousel (the kid in me loves that!). There is a traditional nativity scene and speciality craft cabins; providing the perfect backdrop to the extraordinary home of Santa. Festive activities include arts and crafts group workshops, where children can enjoy making Christmas wreaths and decorating wooden angels. Following a visit to Santa and his elves, every child will receive a gift – if only I was five again…
In addition, centre:mk will host a daily Christmas Market in Queen’s Court from Saturday 25th November to 23rd December. The amazing outdoor space will be transformed into a winter wonderland of beautifully lit trees, wooden cabins full to the brim of scrumptious Christmas food, winter warmers and gifts – perfect for me to avoid Christmas Eve shopping.
Once you have finished shopping, there’s wrapping to be done. I am a little ‘finger and thumbs’ and never quite manage to achieve the same polished wrap as girls on make-up counters do, (seriously, they must spend months on training courses.) Fear not – help is on hand in the form of a charity gift wrapping service – avoid a mundane job and give to charity too! intu Milton Keynes has once again teamed up with the city centre church’s Cornerstone Christmas Appeal to bring its charity gift wrapping service and carol singing programme back for another year – it will run up to Christmas Eve and will be situated next to intu’s Customer Information desk (beside Debenhams).
Professional makeup artist Gail Spooner recommends some fabulous products for all of the beauty-lovers out there. I personally love a quality advent calendar (usually with a nice Swiss chocolate), but my waistline most definitely does not! Gail has found a great alternative filled with fabulous beauty gifts – genius! She also offers expert advice on creating dazzling glitter lips and the best products for party eyes – that’s the Christmas party look sorted.
If you’re looking for unusual Christmas gifts make sure you check out our What’s On pages, as there are loads of Craft Fairs happening throughout December and you may just find that elusive present.
Wishing all our readers, advertisers, contributors and distributors a wonderful Christmas, and prosperous New Year.
