NN November 16
From the Editor
It’s November, it’s cold and our fashion expert seems to agree, as her timely column is all about ‘Winter Warmers’. It’s all things ‘wool and outer layers’ this month and I for one, will certainly be considering some of her recommendations.
A big “well done” to all of the cyclists who took part in ‘Cycle4Cynthia’ this year, it was an enormous turnout - even Dylan Hartley’s one year old daughter joined in the fun. Money is still being collected for the event and I am sure we will hear from them again once we know the final amount raised. We have loads of photos from the day on pages 16 and 17.
In collaboration with Towcester Rotary Club, one schoolgirl has been on a trip-of-a-lifetime to Uganda, to help with education and support of other school children there. Jo’s trip has been documented in her own words and can be read on page 12. It provides an insightful account of the daily issues these children face and makes you realise just how much we take for granted.
I am quite excited, because there is another food event in the calendar this month; The Northampton Winter Food Festival. It’s at The County Ground and promises to be a great day out, with lots of local goodies to sample. My advice is to go with an empty belly! With demonstrations from the likes of Howard Middleton from The Great British Bake Off, it is definitely an event not to be missed, especially if you are a bit of a foodie; I for one, cannot wait. We have pair of tickets to give away for the event, but you need to be quick as it’s on the weekend of 12th and 13th of this month and the winner will be drawn on 10th. Good luck.
Expert gardeners from Canons Ashby House, Chris and Nadine remind us to start thinking about Winter maintenance in the garden this month, while David Williams looks at winter vegetables to plant and what to do with spring bulbs.
If you’re looking for inspiration for entertaining the kids we have a family ticket to Colchester Zoo’s Magic of Christmas event to give away (more on page 27), and if you don’t fancy that take a look at our What’s On guide this month - it’s extra-full!
November the 5th falls on a Saturday, so loads of fireworks parties are happening up and down the county. If you haven’t yet decided which one to go to then take a look at page 48 for inspiration.
See you all next month.
